Motorola Edge Review

Motorola launched Flagship smartphone named Edge.  Edge was released Globally on April 22, In India On May 19. Edge is priced at  €599  in European Market @ 6GB + 128GB.

Motorola Edge features the Snapdragon lass chip from Qualcomm named  Snapdragon 765G this chip is made of 7nm LPP (Low Power Plus) FinFet process. this processor is divided into 3 parts; the first part features 1 x Kryo 475 Prime High power cores which are clocked at 2.4GHz, The second part features 1 x Kryo 475 Gold high powered cores which are clocked at 2.2GHz and Third Part features 6 x Kryo 475 Silver which are Clocked at 1.8GHz. it has Adreno 620 GPU to Run the Heavily Graphical Tasks.

I will divide the review into pros & cons. Let’s see quick specs of Motorola Edge and Jump into the review.

Here in Display Department, Edge Features an Excellent Full HD AMOLED panel Notchless Edge screen. the colours are vibrant and enjoyable, viewing angles are also Excellent. There are No issues & problems with screen quality. It is very bright to see in direct sunlight. there is also Support to View HDR 10+.

It has 90 Hz Refresh rate Display Which is good For a Motorola Smartphone.

On this Display There is Corning Gorilla Glass 5 For Protection.

 Stereo Speaker and Headphone Jack:

In Edge, Motorola used the traditional Stereo Speaker System and it is much louder. These speakers are tuned by Waves Sound technology which helps to get clear sound output from the mobile speaker.

Coming to Headphone jack and earphones, The Output from the Headphone Jack is Very Good. The headphones are not present in the Box Due to Competitive pricing. But with some good pair headphones for listening to music and for taking voice calls clearly.

Build Quality:

Edge is Build with a Aluminum Frame on the side on Back & Front of the Device Is Protected With Glass. it provides a good look and feels Because it is made with Aluminum and Glass. There are no issues of creakiness with the build quality. Edge well built and the bezels are shrunk down to place a 6.7″ AMOLED screen. The Edge Very thin and it is About 9.3 mm. Motorola Has Built This Smartphone with Splash Resistance Proofing Which is good.

In-Display Fingerprint scanner: 

Edge Features an In-Display mounted Optical fingerprint sensor which is present on the Bottom Front of the phone. By performance, it is fast and very accurate to recognize the fingerprint of the user. 

Face unlocking:

Edge has a face unlock feature. It works Nice in Normal Conditions Very Quickly and Securely but in Night Conditions it will work 50% Screen brightness to recognize the user. 

Weight balance: 

Edge feels A bit heavy with a 6.7″ Screen and 5000 mAh battery equipped. The weight balance is done well on the device though.

Battery life:

My Edge lasted a Full Working day with heavy usage and at the end of the day, I had 21% of charge left in the phone which is good for a 4500 mAH Battery. We got a 5.7 to 6 Hours of Sot ( Screen on time) on using Mobile data which is good. you will get above 6.5hr Battery life if you use Continuously on WiFi. The ideal drain of Edge is very low. The 18W charging makes a difference and charges the phone in 140min which is a Bad For a Premium Midrange Smartphone in 2020.

Android 10 :

Here the Edge comes with the Android 10. We cannot see Dual apps and other features in this UI of Android 10. The Ui is Very Clean without Un-necessary Apps.

In this UI Motorola Has Included their Moto Actions Which is Very Useful for the Users.

By having Stock Android we can Expect 2 years of Android Version Upgrades and 3 years of security updates on Edge Which is Good Thing.

Performance: 

My Edge managed to do day to day tasks very well. There are no issues and problems with the UI. There are no heating issues with Edge. It Feels a bit warm In Outdoor Conditions While Recording 4K Videos and Gaming.

Ram Management : 

Ram Management is done very well on this Edge device. it features 6 GB ram variant and I did not notice any lags with the 6GB Ram Variant and there is no reloading of apps on this Edge. The multitasking experience is good.

Coming to Gaming, we played Asphalt 9 & PUBG at the highest graphics setting without lags & frame drops in the game. this Snapdragon 765G Processor is very suitable for heavy gaming. Edge has UFS 2.1 Storage System, with the Elgato Game Capture card we can stream & Record the Games.

Storage:

in Edge, Out of 128 GB Storage, we get 110 GB With Google Account Included. Edge 6GB Model Comes With UFS 2.1 a faster Storage option To transfer data, Load Apps And Games fastly.

Call Quality:

The Call quality on Edge is outstanding and there are no issues with cellular call quality. We have taken long calls in a day, and the other party doesn’t complain about call quality. The earpiece is present in Top Bezel Which Acts as a Stereo Speaker Too. In Edge the Calls are very clear through the Loudspeaker.

Rear Camera:

Coming to the Camera Department, Edge features a Quad Camera setup on the back of the device and a Single camera on the front of the device. They work perfectly in Motorola Edge. Let’s divide the cameras and look at the performance of them

64 MP Primary Camera:

The 64 MP main Camera with PDAF is Awesome and features a Fixed Aperture of F/1.8. The daylight pictures are excellent and contain good details which are near to natural photos. Exposure is in control with an Good Dynamic range to take good pictures in Daylight or Good lighting conditions. In low light conditions, the images are Very clear and sharp enough without noise and the exposure is good. Low Light Mode also Available to take Good Pictures in Low Light. There are Some Lags in the Camera Department Which Irritates the user.

Ultra Wide Angle Camera:

the 16MP ultra-wide-angle lens on Edge does an Awesome job in good lighting conditions and features a Fixed Aperture of F/2.2. it captures a much wider picture in a 108˚ field of view with Good details. Exposure also control with a good dynamic range. In low lighting conditions, the pictures from the 16MP camera have a Little bit of noise in pictures. No Low Light mode Available.

Telephoto camera:

the 8MP Telephoto Camera with Dual Pixel PDAF, OIS 81mm Lens is Awesome and features a Fixed Aperture of F/2.4. The Telephoto camera is good and provides 3x Optical Zoom in Pictures. this Camera Does the Job. Low Light mode Available.

2MP Depth Camera

it is used to Create the Depth map of Image in Portrait mode and used as Laser Auto Focusing. We can Also Capture Portrait Images With Edge also. Edge Detection is good. we can also Adjust the Depth Of Image in Edge.

Video recording can Be Done upto 4k @ 30fps .the video footage has Good Colors with good sharpness and with a bit of decent dynamic range. In terms of Stabilization, Edge Video Footage Has remained Unshaken good at 4k @60fps.

in 1080P@ 30 / 60fps, the video has Good Colors with good sharpness and with a bit of decent dynamic range. Coming To the Stabilization, it is good at 1080P@ 30 / 60fps recording Due to Electronic Image Stabilization.

You can record 1080P @ 30fps With The Telephoto Camera .the video footage has Good Colors with good sharpness and with a bit of decent dynamic range. In terms of Stabilization, Edge Video Footage Has remained Unshaken good at 1080P @ 30fps.

G Cam Pictures are Good Exposure and Sharpness are in Control in Both Front and Back Cameras.

Selfie camera:

Motorola Edge Review Edge Front Camera

Edge has a 25 MP selfie camera with a large 1/3″ Sensor size and 80˚ field of view. it has a fixed aperture of F/2.0 the Picture quality is good and captures pictures in a Wide view in good lighting conditions.

This single camera can be used to take portraits images from the front with the Help of Artificial Intelligence.

in 1080P@ 30fps, the video has Good Colors with good sharpness and with a bit of decent dynamic range. Coming To the Stabilization, it is good at 1080P @ 30fps recording Due to Electronic Image Stabilization.
