LG V40 Thinq REVIEW: A Camera Beast From LG

Lg launched A V-series smartphone Named LG V40 successor to V30. LG V40 Thinq was released in India on 03 October 2019. LG V40 Thinq is priced at 49,990 @ 6GB + 128GB Variant.

LG Released V40 Thinq in only 6GB Ram + 128GB Internal Storage Model. when I’m using Lg V40 Thinq I got a premium feeling when holding in the hand and had a triple Camera Setup on rear and Daul camera setup on front makes this Smartphone a Camera beast. Coming to Display Department LG V40 features a Quad HD Plastic OLED screen which is good to see. it shares some features of LG G7+ Thinq.

it features the Snapdragon chip from Qualcomm named SD 845 which is available on LG G7+ Thinq too. this chip is made of 10nm LPP (Low Power Plus) FinFet process. this processor is divided into 2 parts; the first part features 4 x A75 low power cores which are clocked at 2.8GHz, second part features 4 x A55 high powered cores which are clocked at 1.7GHz. it has Adreno 630 GPU which increases its work by 30% compared to SD 835 the last Flagship processor from Qualcomm. it has an X20 LTE Modem which has Download and Uploads speeds of 1200 & 150MBPS. Coming to the AI Department it doesnot have Ai Integration in the processor built in the processor which helps in AI Capabilities.

LG V40 Thinq has a Triple Camera setup on rear and Dual Camera on the front which comprises a 12MP primary sensor + 12MP Telephoto sensor + 16MP Ultra wide sensor and 8MP primary + 5MP Wide angle lens which helps the user take normal, ultrawide angle and portrait images from front and back.

I will divide the review into pros & cons. let’s see quick specs of

6.4″ Quad HD Plastic oled screen :

Here in Display Department LG V40 Thinq Features an Excellent Quad HD Plastic OLED panel notch screen with 537 pixels per inch, the colours are vibrant and enjoyable, viewing angles are also Excellent. There are No issues & problems with screen quality. It is bright to see in direct sunlight. LG has used the Notch space correctly this time For Dual Camera System, Sensors and Earpiece. there is also Support to View HDR 10+ Content.

Single Speaker and Headphone Jack:

 In LG V40 Thinq LG Used their BoomBox Single Speaker System which has a Resonating chamber inside and it is very loud when Compared to Traditional Stereo Speaker used in all flagship Smartphones. we can see this BoomBox Speaker in LG G series Smartphone named LG G7+ Thinq. these speakers are supported by Dolby DTS X surround Sound technology (Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Atmos) tuned with Meridian Audio which helps to get clear sound output from the mobile speaker.

Coming to Headphone jack and earphones, the headphone jack provided with a 32 bit HiFi Quad Dac which provides a punchy and clear sound with the support of Dolby DTS X Surround Sound System. the LG Brnaded headphones are present in the Box which good for listening to music and for taking voice calls clearly.

Build Quality : 

 LG V40 is Build with a Stainless Steel frame on side and Glass on front and back of the device is protected with Corning Gorilla glass 5 like Lg G7 Thinq. it provides a good look and feels Because it is made with Stainless steel and Glass. issues of creakiness with build quality. well built and the bezels are shrunk down to place a 6.4″ Plastic OLED screen.

Rear fingerprint scanner: 

LG V40 Features a Rear mounted fingerprint sensor which is present on the top back of the phone. By performance, it is fast and very accurate to recognize the fingerprint of the user. Here LG included the fingerprint gestures to Click a Selfie and other things to do.

Face unlocking:

 LG V40 Thinq Uses the face unlock with its 8MP Camera. the face unlocking is a bit slow and not Secure. it unlocks even by placing a photo in front of it. there is also an Advanced Mode Which does not unlock a placing a photo in front of it or Closing eyes. it works in the dark conditions too with medium Amount of light from the Plastic OLED Panel. 

Weight balance: 

LG V40 feels a light with 6.4″ Screen and 3300 mAh battery equipped. This LG V40 can be used by one hand. The weight balance is done well on the device.

Battery life:

 My LG V40 Thinq lasted a Full Working day with heavy usage and at the end of the day, I had 18% of charge left in the phone which is good for a 3300 mAH Battery. We got 6 Hours of Sot( Screen on time) on using Mobile data which is good. you will get above 6.5 to 7 hr Battery life if you use on WiFi. The ideal drain of LG V40 Thinq is very low. the Quick charging 3.0 makes a difference and charges the phone in 95 min which is a bit good.


LG UX 7.1 Operating System :

LG UX 7.1 present on the LG V40 Thinq is very fast & so fluid, No lags were noticed. it comes with bloatware majorly games and other apps were included. it is a layered UI which irritates in Settings. There are some extra features like Dual Apps, Direct video calling feature, Always on Display in this LG UX 7.1 UI.

Performance: 

My LG V40 Thinq managed to do day to day tasks very well like the LG G7 Thinq. there are No issues and problems with the UI and there are no heating issues with LG V40 Thinq.

Ram Management : 

Ram Management is done very well on this LG V40 Thinq device. it features 6 GB ram and I did not notice any lags with the 6GB Ram device and there are no reloading of apps on this LG V40. Multitasking experience is nice.

Coming to Gaming, we played Asphalt 9 & PUBG at highest graphics setting without lags & frame drops in the game. this Snapdragon 845 Processor is very suitable for heavy gaming.

Call Quality :

The Call quality on LG V40 Thinq is outstanding and there are no issues with cellular call quality. We have taken long calls in a day, and the other party doesn’t complain about call Quality. The earpiece is included in the notch & its very loud. in LG V40 Thinq the Calls are very clear through the Loudspeaker

Rear Camera: 

Coming to the Camera Department, LG V40 Thinq features a Triple Camera setup on the back of the device and a Dual camera on the front of the device. they work perfectly in LG V40 Thinq. lets divide the cameras and look at the performance of them

1. Primary Camera: the 12MP main Camera is Awesome and features a Fixed Aperture of F/1.5. The daylight pictures are excellent and contain exquisite details like a natural photo. Exposure is in control with Dynamic decent range to take good pictures in good lighting Conditions. in low light Conditions, the images are very clear and Sharp without noise which is good to see.

2. Telephoto Camera: It Has a 12MP Telephoto camera, which occurs on some Flagship phones. the LG V40 captures portrait shots with its standard camera, after having the Separate 12MP Telephoto Camera. the edge detection is good and gives the best portrait effect to the photo. it captures pictures in a 77˚ field of view

3. Ultra Wide Angle Camera: the 16MP ultra wide angle lens on LG V40 Thinq does a good job in good lighting conditions. it captures a much wider picture in 108˚ field of view with good details. exposure is in control with a decent dynamic range. in low lighting conditions, the 16MP camera makes a mark and captures good photos with decent sharpness and bright natural colours

Video recording can be done up to 4k@60fps .the video footage has excellent Colours with great sharpness and decent dynamic range. Stabilisation is not good in 4k@60fps And 1080p FHD recording. The video quality in the low night conditions is very good with good Sharpness and Decent Dynamic range.

Selfie camera :

 Primary 8MP Camera:

LG V40 thinQ as an 8MP selfie camera with large 1.22 μm pixel size and 80˚ field of view. it has a fixed aperture of F/1.9 the Picture quality is fantastic and captures pictures in a Wide view in good lighting conditions it also captures better lowlight images compared to the rear camera. AI beautification mode is available. Photos are well detailed and contain a decent dynamic range.

Wide-angle 5MP Camera:

the wide-angle camera does a good job in daylight and night conditions which is good for the user to take wide-angle images and Video’s

This single camera can be used to take portraits images from the front with the Help of Artifical Intelligence.
 

MIL-STD-810G:

 LG V40 Thinq has MIL-STD-810G certification for a Durable Body from US Military which is good to see. it has also IP68 Water & Dust Resistance to protect the phone from Water spills.

Wireless Charging: 

LG V40 Thinq has Fast Wireless Charging Support which is good to charge the Phone wirelessly.

CONS

LG Should Improve the face unlock in the upcoming Android Versions

LG is Very late in terms of Android Version Upgrades

VERDICT

Who can get LG V40 Thinq: if you want a bigger Quad HD screen with the triple camera setup on the rear and Dual Camera setup on Front then you can go to LG V40 which is good to see and ticks all the departments. if you want AMOLED Screen with same features at the same price then you can go with Galaxy S10 Plus.
